Local Business Gets New Customers with a Mobile Web App
A web app designed, developed and deployed correctly can have an immediate impact on a customers business and this certainly was the case with Linda Montoya over at Pony Express Custom Hair here in Albuquerque.
Pony Express Custom Hair specializes in custom, high quality human hair extensions and hair replacement for women who want longer hair or who are dealing with hair loss. Linda has been in business for quite some has extensive expertise with what she does but her web presence was in desperate need of a technology refresh.
The Pony Express Website was built on an old version of Dream Weaver and though it does need to be redone, we knew she was losing business because it wasn’t mobile friendly. As a result rather then building her a new, mobile responsive site to start with, we decided to make a new webiste a 2nd order of business and develop a mobile web app instead; the development time is shorter, a web app can be more user friendly for mobile users and it would stop the bleeding immediately. Which it did.
Pony Express Mobile Web App Functionality Overview
One of the beautiful things about a web app is the fact that it looks just like an app that someone might download from the Google, or Apple app store. It’s a common interface that people are accustomed to using, which is great because people can build in variation to their responsive design which then forces people to adapt to an interface that is different from the app. Not to mention the fact that a lot of functional features can be built into the web app and they’re all easily accessible to users and prospects.
Pony Express Web App Home Screen
The way that a web app works is that we place a small piece of code on your site that is able to identify the type of device your user or prospect is using when they come your website domain. In this case http://ponyexpresscustomhair.com. If this small piece of code determines that you’re using a mobile type of display device such as a smartphone or tablet it displays the home screen of the web app, which as you can see from the image below looks identical to most apps.
- About: Prospects read about Pony Express, Linda and how she can help them get the hair they want.
- Contact Us: This is more then just an email form. It’s combines a map, operating hours as well as convenient click to call and directions features.
- Before/After: A photo gallery of customers before and after pictures that allows prospects to visually experience how Linda can transform their hair.
- More Tab: Exposes more features.
In addition there are three other buttons above each of the icons; 1) Call us, 2) Directions and 3) Share.
Web App Click to Call Feature
The click to call feature of the web app is present in multiple locations but very conveniently located directly on the home screen. No number to dial, which is great if someone is driving and one of the things that is very powerful of the click to call feature is it’s ability to support multiple locations.
This means that if you have multiple locations your prospect will be presented with a screen that allows them to choose which location it is that they need to call as is illustrated by the screen shot on the left.
All the user has to do is simply tap on the location and the phone is automatically dialed, or for some phones (and I believe most support this) users are given the choice of making a phone call, or sending a text message as is shown by the image to the right.
Web App Driving Directions
For new customers this is a convenient feature. It provides a map that illustrates where Pony Express Custom Hair is located as well as draws and highlights a nice like depicting the best route for getting to Pony Express Custom Hair.
Pony Express is kind of located inside of a building off the main street and not completely visibile from the street so having a map with driving directions removes a lot of the guesswork people might have when driving to Pony Express for their appointment.
More Web App Functions and Features
Mobile is a very media driven display device; pictures, audio and especially video. Video is one of the main things that people like to do with thier mobile device and Pony Express has many video testimonials that are up on YouTube.
So if someone wasn’t convinced that Pony Express was the place to go from the before and after pictures then they’ll discover the YouTube videos from the more tab and watch the many video testimonials for Pony Express.
